The Demon Abraxas Blog Tour

Welcome to my 1st stop as a TLC Blog Tour Host! I will be starting off the tour for the book The Demon Abraxas by Rachel Calish!

About the Book:

The Demon AbraxasSan Francisco after dark can be full of unusual sights, but the last thing Ana Khoury expects to stumble across is black-garbed figures carrying a body into a building. Her call to 911 is interrupted by a blow to the head, plunging her into nothingness.
Sabel Young has long been attracted to the gentle and alluring Ana, but her esoteric assignments have left her with few options for romance. When she realizes that Ana has been taken—and by whom—her very private life and Ana’s normal world collide. Her orders were specific: she is not supposed to get involved with demons.
Even if Sabel’s interest in Ana weren’t already personal, there is no way she will leave a woman with no magic in the hands of dark powers. With daring and luck she pulls Ana to safety and at first it appears they have escaped dark magic unscathed. At first…”

About Rachel Calish:

She’s a fan of Border Collie mixes, because any dog blends well with Border Collie, and stays in shape by trying to keep up with one. My Review:

This is my first time reading a book by this author, however this was not my first time dabbling in the world of the paranormal genre, so I have to say I was impressed with this book and really enjoyed it.

There are several aspects of the book I would like to touch on here:

The plot:
It was an enjoyable book because the plot was well written and thought out. As a reader you actually want to know what is going to happen in the book because of all the twists, turns, and supense within its pages. It is also a very creative plot in my opinion, yes there are alot of paranormormal books out there right now, but this one is different mainly because of the fact that the two main characters are both women and they fall in love with each other. You don't see books like that everyday now do you? It is what makes for and interesting plot and also what I like to call a refreshing one.

I think my mention here of the two main characters leds into a good transition or discussion of my next aspect:

The characters:

The book has several characters, all well written. The two main characters are named Sabel and Ana, both are very likable and believable. What do I mean by believable?  Well I mean that as a reader one can see these characters living in the real world or may know people in their real life who have simular personalities as these characters, because of this the characters are more relatable to the reader and you are more engaged in the story because you care about the characters. Also the relationships between the characters are very beleiveable as well.

I also thought that the author developed well written characters because she was so descriptive with them. The reader can see this when she describes things like what the characters are wearing, etc. What I mean by this is that when the author describes what kind of suit a character is wearing for example, you can actually visualize easily in your mind that character walking into that room wearing that suit.

I could not pick out a favorite character in this book. I thought they were all good, some better then others but thats the way it goes with most books.

I also thought the characters show or support my opinion above that this was a very creative book because of the characters names. You dont see a character with the name Sabel everyday? Do you? I also just wanted to mention this because I love the name Sabel!

The setting:

San Fransico, of course was a very believeable setting for this book because it actually a real place, so the reader most likely knows something about the setting. It is also a setting that I believe has a good atomosphere for a story like this. I say this because I am a fan of the T.V. show Charmed which is about a group of sisters who are witches who live in San Fransico. So for someone like me who is a fan of this show, the concept of witches living in San Fransico is not too out of the ordinary.

The cover:

I thought the cover was interesting and fitting for a book with this kind of plot. Its not one of my favorite covers but I think its a good one because you see Sabel (Shes the Brunette) and then Ana (the Blode) with a dark persence looming behind them, or wacthing them which I think is to represent the Demon Abraxas. It  certainly sets the mood for the book and makes you want to read more.

My final thoughts:

I would recommend this book. It is perfect for this time of year, as it really gets you in the mood for Halloween! Also I think people who are fans of the paranormal genre will enjoy this book. Also people who are fans of LGBTQ genres will enjoy this book and the relationship between Sabel and Ana.

I would like to thank Jen from TLC Book Tours for letting me participate in this blog tour and review this book.

  2. Thanks for the thoughtful review. I'm really glad to hear you enjoyed all the plot elements and the characters. It's delightful to see you love the name Sabel, I do too! (I actually ended up naming my puppy Sabel too, but she's named after the character, not the other way around.)

Grace, glad to hear you like Abraxas & Lily. I'm working on a Lily short story for a giveaway in the future!
